About the course:

This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to work within an Early Years Setting. This qualification is suitable for learners aged 16 and over and it is design to equips learners with the experience , knowledge, understanding and skills that a level 2 early years practitioner needs to demonstrate to be considered qualified to support young children from birth to 5 years old.

This qualification meets the Early Years Practitioner (EYP) criteria, for the purposes of the staff: child ratios at level 2 in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Course Structure:

To achieve the Level 2 Diploma students must obtain a minimum of 38 credits QCF credits

Course Content: 

  1. Development of Children within an Early Years Setting
  2. Wellbeing of Children within an Early Years Setting
  3. Health and Safety for Children in an Early Years Setting
  4. Protection of Children in an Early Years Setting
  5. Support the Planning and Delivery of Activities, Purposeful Play Opportunities and Educational Programmes
  6. Partnership Working within an Early Years Setting

Entry requirement

There is no formal entry requirements needed to undertake this qualification. However, we advise that students must have a GCSE grade D and above in Maths and English. Students will be required to take initial assessments prior to their place on the course being confirmed.

Do You Need To Be Working To Take The Qualification?

Yes, in order to take the qualification, the student will need to either be working, volunteering or on practical placements to demonstrate competence in both knowledge and skills.

Assessment Method:

The assessor will come to the workplace of the students, which is where the observation will take place. Prior to the observation, the assessor will assist in portfolio building and observations.

Progression route?

Through achieving this qualification you will be able to progress into employment working with children from 0 to 5 years in roles such as Early Years Educator, Nursery Nurse, Child Minder, and Preschool Assistant.
Learners could progress to further study or training such as:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator)

Course Duration: Up to 12 Months

Start Dates: Every September /April. For those studying EYP through the apprenticeship route, there is no set time. Student can start the course at any time.

Course Costs: The course fee is £2,000.00. However, some students may be eligible for the loan facility which may be used to pay for the course. For more information about the loan, feel free to contact us. This fee does not apply to apprenticeship students
